Jagannath Puri Yatra: A Sacred Pilgrimage

The Jagannath Puri Yatra, also known as the Ratha Yatra, is one of the most revered and celebrated Hindu festivals in India. It takes place in the ancient city of Puri, located on the eastern coast of Odisha. This grand procession attracts millions of devotees and tourists from around the world who come to witness and participate in this vibrant and spiritually enriching event.

The word ‘Jagannath’ is derived from two Sanskrit words: ‘Jagat’ meaning ‘universe’ and ‘Nath’ meaning ‘lord’, thus signifying Lord of the Universe. The grand procession starts from the Jagannath Temple and moves towards the Gundicha Temple, where the deities stay for nine days before returning to their original abode in a similar procession called the Bahuda Yatra.
