Rameshwaram Yatra: A Sacred Journey to the Southern Tip of India

Rameshwaram, located on Pamban Island in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, is one of the most revered pilgrimage destinations in India. Known for its stunning Dravidian architecture, pristine beaches, and profound religious significance, Rameshwaram attracts millions of devotees and tourists each year. It is believed that Lord Rama built a bridge, known as Rama Setu, from here to Lanka (modern-day Sri Lanka) to rescue his wife Sita from the demon king Ravana. The town’s name, Rameshwaram, translates to “Lord of Rama,” further emphasizing its connection to the epic Ramayana.

The Ramanathaswamy Temple, with its intricate corridors, massive sculpted pillars, and sacred water tanks, is the town’s crown jewel. Pilgrims from across the country visit this temple to perform rituals and take a holy dip in the 22 theerthams (holy water bodies) within the temple complex, which are believed to purify the soul.
